Race Night 8: Sonic Adventure (DX)
« on: October 28, 2012, 06:52:05 am »
Again another success with SCD. We beat the largest race number on SRL for SCD with 13 players (another race with double figures). It used to be 7.

For the next 3D race, it's SADX.  Please tell me what goals you want to race. You have till Saturday Friday 12pm EDT to vote.

1) Beat the game as Sonic: 7
2) Beat the game as Tails: 3
3) Beat the game as Knuckles: 4
4) Beat the game as Amy: 2
5) Beat the game as Big: 2
6) Beat the game as Gamma: 2
7) Complete all stories: 2

Random level collectible story is worst story

I'd for Sonic but I'm going to be out this weekend :C
Did you not think I had a mind?

i'd prefer sonic i guess. i also wouldn't mind tails or knuckles, but tails' story is so dang short! knuckles might be hard to get people to race since he's kinda annoying to play as.

I'd also likely propose that voting should end slightly earlier than normal to accomodate this fact, so as to provide sufficient time for that to be done.

Done. The voting will end on Friday 12pm EDT.

I say sonic's story, although I'll do any of them really since they're all pretty easy. I don't really know any strats so I'll be doing noob strats for everything.

For me, they're all too short to really get into other than Sonic. And Sonic is funner. So Sonic.

One quick question, what will we do about version differences? Sorry, I have no clue what the rerelease of SADX or the dreamcast version is like. I heard that the dreamcast version can't skip cutscenes? Am I wrong?
LIKE A NOOB

EDIT: FlyingFox, is that for all races or just this case?

Oh, quick random note. If you are British, like myself, this week the race will be held at 9pm our time rather than 10, due to the quirks of daylight saving around the world. Don't miss it.

I've had a look at SRL, there are definitely no goals for version differences. Also I did read someone's comment that they watched the cutscenes and they still came first. However, I don't know if cutscenes were supposed to be watched by everyone.

So I'm going to allow version differences.

FF surely you mean watch credits. Because GC can skip them (soft reset) and the 360 couldn't.

Should others watch cutscenes or no? It wasn't exactly referred to in your last comment.

I would also recommend that the PC version not be used because of its instant loading times. It could save 3-7 minutes (estimate)opposing someone on GC, XBLA, PSN, or Steam versions(I think Steam is good...). As HyperSonic mentioned, DC is obviously not recommended, since you can't skip cutscenes in the first place

A little proposal: we could race a shorter story after Sonic's story as a rematch. Maybe even 2-3 shorter stories.

I would also recommend that the PC version not be used because of its instant loading times.
I only have the PC version kthxbai.

i know this is after the time you said votes have to be in by, but i vote to race sonic story, and then if people are still there and want to rerace then we can race tails story or something.

P.S. My vote would have been Tails story but I don't think it makes any difference

Forgive me if this idea is stupid, but if you guys are saying that the PC version provides a loading time advantage of 3-7 minutes, you could give the PC players like a 5 minute forfeit or something. So once they've beat the goal, they could time 5 minutes, then .done.

Sorry I haven't posted earlier as TSC was down and I had to sort some things out >_>

Firstly, the goal is to beat the game as sonic. The room will be on open on SRL one hour before the race starts.

Secondly, the reason I allowed all versions is because people might only have one copy of the game on a specific version, and I want everyone to join in as possible. As I said at some point, race nights is about coming together to have fun, it isn't competition. If it was I would be posting the results from the races somewhere on the board >_>

And people playing the PC version of Generations should have hung around and did nothing for 10 minutes at the start of the race because it's "not fair" that the version they're using loads faster than console versions I suppose?

No one brought it up then, so why bother now?

I'm not too bothered about this issue anyway, but have you ever heard of 'improvement'?

Because an "improvement" to the system that translates as "some people with the game just sit around and do nothing for a while at the start/end because boo hoo" is a crock of shit.

Should be because the PC version could save 3-7 minutes (estimate) opposing someone on GC, XBLA, PSN, or Steam. But it doesn't really matter to me anyways.

I would totally call that 'boo hoo'. How about if a Dreamcast user said it wasn't fair that everyone isn't waiting 20 minutes at the start because they have to sit through ~20 mins of cutscenes?
